Antarāya-karma
One of the four varieties of ‘destructive’ karman that hinders spiritual development so that positive actions are not as powerful as they should be. Antarāya-karma reduces the effects of effort so, even if one has the correct knowledge and intentions, the good deed is not completed because:
soul’s energy – vīrya – is dampened
hampers giving to others –dāna-
hinders receiving things from others –lābh-
reduces enjoyment of food – bhog-
reduces repeated enjoyment of material items –upabhog-
