Antarāya-karma

One of the four varieties of ‘destructive’ karman that hinders spiritual development so that positive actions are not as powerful as they should be. Antarāya-karma reduces the effects of effort so, even if one has the correct knowledge and intentions, the good deed is not completed because:
 soul’s energy – vīrya – is dampened
 hampers giving to others –dāna-
 hinders receiving things from others –lābh-
 reduces enjoyment of food – bhog-
 reduces repeated enjoyment of material items –upabhog-
