Śāsana-devatā

A pair of guardian or protector gods who attend each Jina. They protect his teachings – śāsana – and can appease evil powers. King of the gods, Śakra, appoints a male yakṣa and a female yakṣi to be the śāsana-devatā for each Jina.  Their attendance on the Jina and their divine powers mean they are popular subjects of worship.
